Is It Necessary?
At Accu Dental gum contouring is considered to be a cosmetic procedure that is not medically necessary. Whilst most individuals choose to have their gums contoured in order to improve the look of their smile, some need to have their gums reshaped as part of a periodontal procedure, such as crown lengthening or pocket reduction.
What To Expect
Before the surgery begins, our expert orthodontists and dental surgeons will talk through the surgery and draw a line along your gums to mark your new gum line. This way you can see exactly how much of your gum will be removed during the contouring surgery.
Our experts will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area so that you don’t experience any pain or discomfort during the surgery. In some instances, the bone at the front of the roots of your teeth may need to be removed in order to get the best result from the gum contouring.
