Cores

A core is a dental restoration treatment that is sometimes performed by our expert dental surgeons and orthodontists after a root canal. When a large proportion of your tooth structure is removed, a post and core helps to keep the dental crown in position. Dental crowns are placed over your teeth in order to protect them from infection or damage.

When Are Cores Needed?

During a root canal, a section of your tooth is removed by our experts and the cavity in the root is removed. In some cases, there may not be a sufficient amount of your tooth left for it to function correctly. Where this happens, a post and core is performed to keep your crown in position, as well as to build or reconstruct the missing part of your tooth.

The Restoration Treatment

There are two types of core treatments that our orthodontist and dental surgeons use at the Accu Dental clinic.

The first of these is a prefabricated post and core, which is a pre-made unit that is applied to your tooth. The second is a cast post and core, where a single piece unit is custom made in a dental laboratory.

Our experts will discuss with you what the best option is based on the extent of your tooth’s decay or damage.
