Retreatment supplement

Whilst a root canal treatment is a highly effective way of removing tooth pain, in some instances, that pain can come back some months or years later. Despite the nerve having been removed, it doesn’t always heal as expected. If you are experiencing pain after your root canal has healed, it may be a sign that endodontic retreatment is required. In this instance, you should schedule an appointment with our expert orthodontists and dental surgeons for an oral examination.

Treatment Options

Depending on the cause of the pain that you are experiencing, our experts may suggest either endodontic surgery or retreatment. With endodontic surgery, an incision is made in the tip of the root of your tooth and the infected part removed. The only other treatment option is having your tooth extracted.

What To Expect

Retreatment begins with our dental surgeons and orthodontists removing the filling or crown on your tooth in order to gain access to the filling material in the root canal. Once this has been removed, the canals are cleaned so that the infection or unusual anatomy that requires treatment is exposed. After removing the infection and cleaning and reshaping the canals in your tooth, our experts will restore or refill them. Finally, a temporary filling is placed in your tooth.
